Biography of Julian Assange

Julian Paul Assange was born on July 3, 1971, in the Australian city of Townsville, Queensland.

His mother, Christine Ann Hawkins, was a makeup artist and met builder and political activist John Shipton at an anti-war demonstration. They separated before Julian was born, and he only met his biological father when he was 25 years old.

Soon after, Christine married Richard Brett Assange, the owner of a traveling theater, and Julian spent his childhood constantly on the move. In 1979, Christine and Richard divorced, and Christine began a relationship with musician Leif Meynell, with whom she had another son.
